anemone living lab
a living lab for research on the environment — and that remediates its own environment as water levels keep rising
I determined that Sunset Park’s economy would benefit greatly from a research facility related to its industries and industrial waste facility. To master a master plan for that, it would require designing for the environmental challenges of this specific area: water levels keep rising, infrastructure/ energy infrastructure is failing, and several buildings are falling apart. With my collaborators, we realized a way to fix it all.
Here, some buildings were selected for removal, others for rebuilding, all reprogrammed based on the living lab’s campus and campus living scheme. Most importantly, a new transit hub and selected buildings would be home to energy and water systems that would allow for the whole 22-building campus in providing for 58% of its energy demand — and reuse 100% of its water (calculations provided below).
Most importantly, the lab continuously remediate its environment; not only from its research, or only from these building systems, but from its structural system.
