pūjā
digital artifact
I created a hyperrealist digital artifact by layering and re-layering imaging data that I collected for a statue handed down my family for several generations. As I was born ‘n’ raised in Canada, family elders especially desired for me to keep a part of our culture with me. They noted that the Hindi word, pūjā refers to revering stories of different gods/goddesses — fitting, here, as the statuette here is of the god of arts, letters, and creativity.
The film below also reveals more of this character’s backstory, revealing that this character has 8 avatars. The film is intended to be displayed on loop — that could be considered as a sort of pūjā.
